This classroom design is adapted to the local climate and includes solar-powered electricity, temperature control, and incorporates natural and recycled materials.

HOMEOWNERSHIP

PILOT PROJECT

Starting April, 2026, ECOHAB plans to build four sustainable, affordable homes in Taos County using passive solar design and adaptive construction. These homes will lower utility costs and offer below-market ownership options to qualifying residents. Our Team

Over 50 volunteers & locals from 14 different countries for 24 days

Our Process & Materials

Over 50 people from 14 different countries came together to make this build happen!
Over 2.500 glass bottles used and kept out of the local landscape.
250 automobile tires pounded with earth and used as a foundation.
160 stick of 1/2" rebar reinforce our seismic resistant classroom.
Groups of 15-20 local kids from the school worked with us everyday.
600 breakfasts and 600 lunches were served to crew and volunteers.
1500 liters of water catchment storage.
Locally sourced .5K solar electric system powers the classroom.
1000 Ecobricks (plastic bottles packed with trash) were utilized for walls.

ECOHAB is a source of action where ecology meets adaptive design. We build ecological habitations to amplify communities through self-reliance, education and employment.
