Join Us October 20th - November 14th, 2025 for an Incredible Workshop Experience in Guatemala!

Why ECOHAB is returning to Comalapa, Guatemala to build more classrooms:

ECOHAB, in partnership with nonprofits Long Way Home and Team Up, is building two sustainable classrooms in the rural Maya Kaqchikel village of Patzaj (near San Juan Comalapa) to address severe shortages of educational infrastructure. These classroom designs are adapted to the local climate and includes rainwater harvesting, solar-powered electricity, temperature control, and more.

This community of approximately 300, mainly Indigenous Kaqchikel, families faces high rates of poverty, low literacy, limited school completion (especially for girls), and lack of clean water or sanitation. Only a small fraction of Indigenous children finish high school, and many children work agricultural fields instead of attending school full-time. Through our hands-on workshops, participants learn adaptive design construction techniques while helping build essential infrastructure that brings education, opportunity, and resilience to underserved communities.
